Since 2001, Hartmut Schwahn is concerned with the preparation of patent applications, opposition and inter partes proceedings as well as expert opinions, infringement analysis, validity analysis, freedom-to-operate analysis and due-diligence proceedings. Hartmut Schwahn represents clients from German and international, large and medium-sized companies as well as from university and commercial research institutes and start-up entrepreneurs.
Main technical fields are: life science, cell culture, media, molecular diagnosis, genomics, proteomics, bioanalysis, medical technology, orthopedic technology, prosthetics, pharma, food/functional food, electrochemistry, catalyst, nesting boxes, microscopy and optics.
Hartmut Schwahn studied chemistry and biology at the Eberhard-Karls-University in Tübingen, Germany. He graduated in Biology in 1993.
Following a stay at the University of California in San Francisco, School of Medicine in 1993 and 1994, he obtained his Doctorate in Biology in 1998 on electrophysiological methods in myopia research. He has published several scientific publications in this field.
He was engaged at the University Eye Hospital in Tübingen for 3 years in an interdisciplinary group for the development and evaluation of a microchip-based retinal prosthesis for the blind. He enjoyed technical education in analytical chemistry, physiology, cell biology, neuropharmacology, electronic measurement technology, analogue and digital signal processing, and physiological optics.
During 2001 to 2004 he completed his legal training and education at the German District Court of Mannheim, the German Federal Patent Court, and the German Patent- and Trademark Office in Munich and followed a two year-curriculum of studies of law.
Since 2004 Hartmut Schwahn is admitted at the German Patent- and Trademark Office (DPMA), the German Federal Patent Court (BPatG). Since 2005 he is also admitted at the European Patent Office (EPO). He is also admitted at the German Federal Supreme Court (BGH) in connection with nullity actions, proceedings concerning supplementary protection certificates and compulsory licenses. He is also admitted at the Bundessortenamt (Federal Bureau for Protection and National Listing of New Plant Varieties) concerning the protection of new plant varieties.
Hartmut Schwahn trains science and medical students in “basic legal principles” and “intellectual property rights”.
